The 10th anual Expression Sessions Surf Festival turned into a glorious day at the beach. The Haida Gwaii surf community was out in full force with surfers of all ages taking to the wonderful waves. Here is a link to some drone footage that captured some surfers enjoying the last moments of the Expression Sessions 2018.
10th Annual Expression Sessions will be this Saturday November 10th, 10:00 am at Hl’yaalan_llngee. NBSS will have free wetsuit and surfboard rentals on a first come first serve basis to ‘Adopt a Grom’ or to perhaps ‘Adopt a Mom’ and take her out and share the stoke. Mount Moresby Adventure Camp will be there for the Expression Session Concession with warm food for sale. This is a family fun event. Please come celebrate with us. The 2014 Expression Sessions is in the planning phase now and we’re looking for photographers this year to help us record the event and share previous years photos. We are asking for submissions of waves on Haida Gwaii (with surfers, or without) to be showcased in a slide show presentation. We ask that you submit your photos watermarked with your name or business or even better in a printed format. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the event. Submissions can be emailed to northbeach@mhtv.ca
Photography Seminar – WANTED – Facilitator(s)
We are looking for people interested in volunteering to facilitate a photography seminar on the ways to capture surfers and waves for Saturday and Sunday. Prizes will be awarded for the best waves for the surfer and photographer. If you are interested please contact us at northbeach@mhtv.ca

Movie “The Fortune Wild” It was played last year and loved so much we’re playing it again. Join Tofino pros Peter Devries, Noah Cohen, and Reid and Aaron Jackson in this humorous and well filmed story of their trip to Haida Gwaii.
Saturday November 8 – Adopt a Grom
10AM Hiellen River
The first 24 registrants ages 6-16 will get an hour of one-on-one instruction with one of our local surfers. Wetsuit and Surfboard are provided.
12-4 Expression Session/photography session
With a very high tide at 2pm it’s expected to produce some great wave action and people are invited to come out for a good day on the waves and to take some photos to share in the action. We will have prizes for the best waves for the surfer and photographer.

2012 Expression Sessions
Surf season is here. To mark it’s official beginning it’s time for the 4th Annual Haida Gwaii Expression Session. Much like previous years this is a non-competitive celebration of surfing on Haida Gwaii. To Register go to www.hgrec.com and click on the ‘Registered Programs’ Link.
The tentative schedule is as follows:
Thursday November 1st – Free Surf
Friday November 2nd – Free Movie 6:00 PM. The animated classic ‘Surf’s Up’ at the Haida Gwaii Recreation Building directly in front of George M. Dawson High School. This will also be featuring the artwork of Rika and his surfscapes.
Saturday November 2nd – ‘Adopt a Grom’ 10 – 2 at Hiellen River/North Beach. First 16 registrants under 18 can get an hour with an exprienced surfer with all equipment provided.
Saturday November 2nd – 2pm – Expression Session – Hiellen River. The tide will be up by now and if the waves provide, good conditions for surfers and observers to see why we live here. Experienced surfers only please. Beginners, please stick to the right of the break. For info on ettiquette and safety, please follow these rules.
Sunday November 4th – Women’s Wave – Agate Beach 10AM. This will be a 2 hour introduction to surfing and wave safety for women 18+. Equipment is provided for first 8 registered participants.
