Surf Shop Manager
We are looking for a store manager for North Beach Surf Shop. We have evolved into a tourist information center for travellers. This is a great way to share your knowledge and learn about Haida Gwaii with travelers and locals alike. This would be an ideal part time job for a retiree looking to meet people and share the love of Haida Gwaii, or possibly a newer resident of Haida Gwaii looking to become immersed in the culture. We may provide accommodations in the surf shop for the right candidate. Please let us know if you require accommodations on your application.
Duties – Sales of clothing and merchandise, facilitate rental wetsuits, surfboards and paddleboards. Clean, rinse, and dry rentals. Provide local knowledge of wind, wave and weather conditions. Additional hours are available for housekeeping, landscaping and gardening at our rental property.
Must Have – Reliability, knowledge of Haida Gwaii, Haida People, and Haida Culture. Must have valid driver’s licence and vehicle. A base level of physical fitness to attach roof racks and surfboards to vehicles. A good understanding of outdoor activities on-island provided by us and other service providers.
Bonus Points – Bronze cross certification, surf experience, teaching experience, SUP experience, website development, carpentry experience.
This is a 4 month contract from June 1st to September 30th, with option to renew. Hours are 10-4 Monday to Friday. Wages are $20/hour with a completion bonus and an instructors’ bonus if teaching.
